Raft Guide Course Information

To help prepare for the course participants should call the registrar (the number is below) and arrange to be sent a raft guide exam package. Students should also consider reserving a spot for the provincial exams.

We will be meeting on May 4th, at 8:30 am at the Sunny Side campground in Cultus Lake. Students are welcome to arrive and camp the night before. You are responsible for your own meals, so please have them planned out for the first couple of days. Hyak will provide a few large coolers to help with the storage of food.

What we supply:

  • Lifejacket
  • Wetsuit
  • Helmet
  • Camping fees
  • River transportation
  • Safety and rescue rigging equipment

What you need to bring:

  • Transportation between rivers (We have some space available but is at a first come first serve approach so please let us know if you need space).
  • Camping supplies i.e.: tent, sleeping bag and pad,( stove, cooler and pots if you have).
  • Food (arrangements will be made to get access to stores)
  • Warm clothes: nights will be cool and opportunity to dry things scarce so bring a lot (polypropylene, fleece and wool is best, no cotton on the river!)
  • Spray jacket or dry jacket
  • Throw bag 60’ to 80’
  • Large gear bag (to throw wet gear in)
  • Neoprene helmet liner, wool or fleece toque
  • Water bottle
  • Sunscreen and sunglasses
  • Thermal footwear i.e. running shoes and neoprene socks or neoprene booties
  • Wind or splash pants
  • Gloves

Optional:

  • Rite in the rain notebook (waterproof notebook)
  • Dry suit
  • River knife
  • Dry bag
